China’s July Electricity Consumption Rises 5.7% Year-on-Year

Aug. 22 2024 (InvestinChina.asia) – China’s total electricity consumption in July 2024 reached 939.6 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), marking a year-on-year increase of 5.7%, according to data released by the National Energy Administration (NEA).

Breaking down the figures by sector, first-industry consumption (primarily agriculture) stood at 14.2 billion kWh, up 1.5% year-on-year. Second-industry consumption (mainly manufacturing and construction) was 565.6 billion kWh, a rise of 5.0% compared to the same period last year. Third-industry consumption (services) amounted to 187.1 billion kWh, growing 7.8% year-over-year. Residential consumption reached 172.7 billion kWh, up 5.9% from the previous year.

For the January-July period, cumulative electricity consumption stood at 5,597.1 billion kWh, representing a 7.7% increase over the same period last year. Within this, large-scale industrial generation accounted for 5,323.9 billion kWh. By sector, first-industry consumption was 76.4 billion kWh, up 7.5% year-on-year. Second-industry consumption was 3,632.9 billion kWh, an increase of 6.6%. Third-industry consumption was 1,039.6 billion kWh, growing 11.0%. Residential consumption was 848.2 billion kWh, up 8.4% from the previous year.
